I've been looking through the memories about homemade laundry detergent, and they've been really helpful.
I'd like to try 1 c Borax, 1 c Washing Soda, 1/3 c unscented Dr. Bronner's.

We've been using a cheap unscented detergent (Ultra Vista: the Save a Lot brand) for a while now. It works fine and all that, but I miss yummy smelling clothes. It's not that my clean laundry smells bad; it smells like nothing. How can I add EO's or any other natural type thing to make my laundry smell nice?

Practically all the recipes I have encountered include washing soda. Is it possible to NOT use washing soda as an additive? It wouldn't be a problem for me to go to the store and pick some up, but I'm curious if I could make my own detergent with the products I already have at hand: borax, baking soda, vinegar. I make my own laundry detergent and am getting a little tired of having it unscented or lavender scented (lavender is the only EO I have right now). What are your favourite fragrances or fragrance combinations? Bonus points if you know of companies that ship oils to Canada! I have some sources around me, but fragrance options seem to be limited.

My son has a spot of ringworm on the inside of his thigh.  We are treating it, but I've been told to make sure his pants get washed in hot water/dried on high heat.  He only wears jeans and fleece pj pants, so this shouldn't be a problem to wash this way.  My question is, will adding vinegar to the wash help to disinfect his clothing?  If so, will ( Read more... )

I just got my new bag of detergent in Hansel & Gretel yesterday (yay!), it smells like ginger bread.  Her detergents smell AMAZING!
